2. Financial Performance

A 4.5% ROIC-WACC spread isn't spectacular, but it's solidly positive and improving (ROIC was effectively zero during the COVID-impacted FY20). The trajectory is clear: as margin expansion continues and capital is redeployed from legacy print into higher-return packaging and creative businesses, ROIC should expand further. At the current market valuation, you're paying approximately 0.93x invested capital — the market is pricing IVE as if it barely earns its cost of capital, when in reality it comfortably exceeds it.

The obvious counter-argument is that print volumes are in secular decline, so the cash flows may shrink over time. The market appears to be pricing IVE as if printed catalogues will disappear overnight. But the reality is more nuanced — the company is actively diversifying into packaging, logistics, creative services, and e-commerce, and the declining print business still generates substantial cash that funds this transition.

The Savings Account Test

If you imagined buying the entire company at today's price (A$578 million including debt), the profit it generates would be like putting that money in a savings account earning:
